I'm Trying to Understand...

BBC NEWS | Programmes | Execution of a teenage girl
On 15 August, 2004, Atefah Sahaaleh was hanged in a public square in the Iranian city of Neka.

Her death sentence was imposed for "crimes against chastity".

The state-run newspaper accused her of adultery and described her as 22 years old.

But she was not married - and she was just 16.

...

Former revolutionary guard, 51-year-old Ali Darabi - a married man with children - raped her several times.

...

When Atefah realised her case was hopeless, she shouted back at the judge and threw off her veil in protest.

It was a fatal outburst.

She was sentenced to execution by hanging, while Darabi got just 95 lashes.
I'm currently listening to a collegiate presentation on a book on Islam, Vision of Islam, to gain some understanding . So far, I am finding it to be an interesting study. Still, when I learn of such atrocities as described in this article, I find I am entirely incapable of condoning the acts. All religious fanatics are nuts. ALL.

My immediate thoughts upon learning of this ridiculous act were to turn the whole area into a parking lot. I'm not that kind of guy - I don't subscribe to wholesale destruction, but dammit! These people who do and approve of these things need to go. If not wiped from the face of Earth, then segregated away from all they would hurt, including their own people.

The outrageous thinking and acts of so many religious nuts, the dangerous ones - you know of whom I speak, unthinkably frightening. I'd continue expressing my thoughts on this, but they are such a whirlwind right now that all that would be written is a continuous rant. Enough already!
