Rock Around The Block

posted by Sam @ 7:30 AM
Chris Daughtry, a finalist on American Idol - Season 5, is from the town I live in. I already knew that; I've actually been watching Idol this season. What I just learned this past weekend is exactly where he lives...

From our house: go north 5 lots, turn left and it's the 4th house on the left - Cool, huh?

Though I've never met him or his family, I've walked by their home often. I may have even thrown my hand up or given a nod to them. That's something that's nice about living in a country neighborhood: even if you don't know each other, you say "Hey!" in some way. His is the area where I first rode the motorcycle, too! (... and laid it down, fortunately further back in the neighborhood!)

Best of luck, Chris! I've no doubt that you've got what it takes.

Here is what looks to be the fan site for him. Thanks for the pic!

Unexpected Recognition

posted by Sam @ 2:12 PM
A friend, Ray Demkowski, told me earlier this week he is to be receiving a medal for an operation he participated in while in the Coast Guard almost 30 years ago. How cool is that? Here's an email he sent me with a link to a write-up about it.
When I was in the Coast Guard I was on pretty important rescue mission in Alaska on October 26,1978.
I got a call this weekend from one of my fellow crewmen to tell me that the Coast Guard was making plans to give us a medal!
They had been trying to locate me for quite a while.
Here is a neat page with all the details. The story made it into the Readers Digest, Alaska Magazine and a book has been written too.

Scroll all the way down and you will see my name mentioned and a picture of our crew!

My Grandfather: Daddy Bob

posted by Sam @ 1:18 PM

I recently was told of a magazine that has an article about my grandfather in it. It's Alamance County Magazine. Since they do not have their content online, I have scanned the article. ACM, please forgive the copyright infringement. After all, he is my grandfather...
