Photo, Slide and Negative Scanners “to Digital Picture Converters”
January 22nd, 2008 by Sam
These gadgets look to be pretty sweet. Instead of a traditional scanner where an image sensor travels the length of the item to be scanned, these simply use the same sensor in a digital camera and copy the item in a single snap. This would certainly make for converting Granny’s picture drawer and Jules’ photo albums to be an afternoon (maybe evening, too) project instead of a week long one.
Slide and Negative to Digital Picture Converter ~ $100
Photograph to Digital Picture Converter ~ $150
Email to Hammacher Schlemmer about the limitations of the Slide And Negative To Digital Picture Converter:
I was ready to purchase your Slide And Negative To Digital Picture Converter (Item # 74083) until I learned and verified it only handles 35mm negatives and slides. Were it to also allow conversion of 110 and 126 negatives, I would have placed my order today. Limiting conversion to 35mm only (and considering the older demographic that likely is a large part of your clientèle) alienates a large portion of potential consumers who still have other film format negatives on hand. It shouldn’t be a great engineering feat to create trays that hold these smaller-than-35mm negatives. Certainly, being able to convert older, larger format negatives would be nice, but would likely require re-engineering the scanning device itself. Please consider requesting the smaller format negative trays from your manufacturer. APS would be nice, too.
Many thanks,
Sam Moore
