I LOST My Friend
April 24th, 2008 by Sam
Doug Douillard, a friend and former neighbor, just hit me up with some cool news. USA Today has published fans’ theories on LOST and his is one of the top 10 out of “far more theories — from around the world — than we could submit to Lost’s producers.” The producers have some awesome comments about it, too. My favorite, though, is:
Cuse: “I will say that this person is going to really respond to Season 5 and feel very superior to everyone else.”
Lindelof: “Then, in Season 6, we will crush their spirits and prove them wrong. And until then, they should enjoy the ride.”
Congratulations, Doug!

Texas Sheet Cake
April 17th, 2008 by SamA friend visiting from San Antonio, Texas, (Hi, Mark!) wrote down this recipe for me from memory, exclaiming how fantastic it tastes. He says, “Like lasagna, it tastes even better a few days later.”
In a sauce pan, bring 2 sticks unsalted butter, 1 cup water, and 4 tablespoons cocoa to boil. Remove from heat. Stir in 2 cups sugar, 2 cups flour, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Blend in 1/2 cup sour cream, 2 eggs, and 1 teaspoon baking soda. Transfer to 13 x 9 x 2 baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes.
Using the same sauce pan, bring 1 stick unsalted butter to boil. Add 4 tablespoons cocoa and 6 tablespoons milk. Remove from heat. Add 1 box confectioners sugar, 1 cup chopped pecans and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Pour over cake while hot.
